Castle Dargan Hotel Sligo Wedding | Shauna + Michael

Castle Dargan Hotel Sligo Wedding

Congratulations to Shauna Gallagher and Michael Lawless on their Castle Dargan Hotel Sligo Wedding. Shauna and Michael where married on the 20th December 2014 in a beautiful wedding ceremony in St. Joseph’s church the Rock Ballyshannon followed by an amazing Castle Dargan Hotel Sligo Wedding reception for their family and friends. On the morning of the 20th of December I had only to make my way to Ballyshannon to start my wedding photography for the day as Shauna and her bridesmaids Dawn, Rebecca, Laura and Jessica where getting hair and makeup done in Shauna’s mums house in Assaroe View. It was a cool crisp morning but the wind was getting stronger by the hour and forecast to be gale force by the afternoon! On arrival Tara from the Beauty Rooms in Ballyshannon was busy getting the girls looking their best and there was a real buzz of excitement. After I got some shots of the girls and all the details I made the quick trip to the Church of St. Joseph’s which is up the Rock in Ballyshannon.

Michael and his groomsmen Patrick, Kevin, Stephen and Paul where already there and where meeting and greeting the guests. I have known Michael for a long time and used to work with him in O’ Donnell’s bakery many moons ago.  Michael and Shauna are now living and working in Sydney Australia and did a fantastic job of organising the wedding from so far away and I’m sure it was difficult to leave the Australian summer to come home to an Irish winter! After the ceremony we got some photos in the Church before making our way to Mullaghmore in county Sligo for some wedding photos.

On our arrival at Mullaghmore it was windy – very windy – very very windy – you get the picture. The headland of Mullaghmore faces out across Donegal Bay and the next stop would be America so as you can imagine any storms coming off the Atlantic have nothing to slow them down until they reach our fine coast. I jumped out of the car and was nearly lifted off my feet – I got the light set up and at the last second we got Shauna and Michael to step out and stand on a small embankment on the side of the road. The vista behind them was absolutely amazing with the sea turbulent and the sky angry with the setting sun poking out through the clouds. As I took my shot I looked at the back of the camera and was blown away with the photo in front of me – the wind had lifted Shauna’s veil and blew it straight up in the air just as they had a kiss – a magic moment in time. I have since entered the image into the wedding competition with the SWPP and it came in joint third – yes I was disappointed as I was hoping for 1st place and although the winning image was beautiful and shot in a lovely warm climate I’m sure if the judges had to consider the conditions we had to work in and that Shauna had to stand out in her wedding dress then the outcome would have been very different. After a couple of quick shots we made our way around to Mullaghmore pier which is on the sheltered side of the headland and got some great shots of the boys with Donegal Bay in the background.

From Mullaghmore we made our way to the wedding reception in the beautiful Castle Dargan Hotel in co. Sligo. The ballroom was stunning with both wedding and Christmas decorations everywhere. The speeches really had everyone in stitches with Kevin showing a very creative slideshow with the help of Dermott. As the band got started the guests where dancing and the party was in full swing when myself and Sinead packed up for the night. I would like to thank both Shauna and Michael for being such a great couple to work with and for braving the elements to get some stunning images and to wish them the very best of everything that life has to offer.
