Mill Park Hotel Wedding Donegal Town Mary + Stephen
Congratulations to Mary Mc Guinness and Stephen Sheerin who were married in St Patrick’s Church Ballyshannon on the 26th of September and held a brilliant wedding reception for their families and friends in Donegal’s top wedding hotel the Mill Park hotel in Donegal town. I started my day off with a visit to Stephen and his groomsmen Robert, Paul and Liam who were getting ready in Stephen’s home house in Assaroe view in Ballyshannon. I have seen many a relaxed groom but Stephen took the idea of ‘sure what’s to be worried about’ย to a whole new level! The boys enjoyed a bottle of champagne in the garden and I really doubt they got a taste of it as most of it was used to water the garden! After leaving the boys to finish getting ready we made our way down to Kildoney to Mary and her bridesmaids Aisling, Lynette and Wendy who were busy in hair and makeup. The girls also enjoyed a bottle of champagne and instead of spraying it through the garden like the boys they managed to get it into some glasses. Flower Girl Hannah and pageboy Dylan didn’t get left out of the celebrations and they enjoyed a few glasses of chilled Shloer in Mary’s dad’s vintage car while everyone else busied themselves getting ready. On video duty for the day was Gerard Mc Girr and Gerard also provided the transport in his vintage cars for Mary and Stephen and the bridal party. After a few shots with Mary and her family we made our way back into Ballyshannon for the wedding ceremony in St Patrick’s church. The weather was to be good all day and there were plenty of guests enjoying the weather outside the church waiting on the arrival of Mary. After the ceremony we got some family photos before making our way back down to Kildoney for some wedding photos along the beautiful coastline of Donegal bay. We had two quick stops to make first and the first was at A Novel Idea on main street Ballyshannon which is owned and operated by Mary – it is a great place to get anything you need from books to cards and scented candles and it also the place where I get my Sparklers for my nighttime photos as Mary is kind enough to keep a year round supply for me. The next stop was at Mary and Stephen’s own house and being a true gentleman Stephen insisted in carrying Mary across the threshold for the first time as his wife. It was only a short drive down to Kildoney point from the house and it is easily one of the best views in Donegal – you can get a panoramic view of the river Erne entering the sea with Tullan strand and Bundoran behind it and a full view of the Dartry mountains and also right across to St John’s point . Mary was up for some climbing as we made our way over some very big boulders to get to the waters edge and even though Stephen and Robert ended up with wet feet due to a wave crashing on the rock they were standing on it was totally worth the effort and wet socks when you see the photos we captured. As we got back to the cars Gerard had a bottle of champagne on ice and he popped it open for everyone to enjoy a glass before we set off for Donegal town and the Mill Park Hotel for the wedding reception. As Mary and Stephen mingled with their guests myself and Sinead made our way to shoot some cake and detail photos in the stunning ballroom before the guests arrived for dinner. The entertainment for the evening was provided by the Pat Gallagher band and Pat and the boys really know how to get the crowd dancing and more importantly keep them dancing all night. Before I put the camera away we went outside to get some night photos with the sparklers and there also happened to be the most amazing full moon rising which made for the best backdrop ever to a backlight shot of Mary and Stephen – the following night was the lunar eclipse which I managed to get some great photos of the blood red moon and I still wish it had been one day earlier as it would have been unreal to have it in a wedding photo – maybe it will all fall into place at a future wedding! I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mary and Stephen the very best for their future and thank them for allowing me photograph their amazing wedding.
